Owner came in the house while I was there unannounced. Very rude and obnoxious. Also if the power bill hoes over $140 you are responsible for paying but she doesn't tell you that until you move in. Very dark and scary back there too at night.

CAUTION RENTING TO THIS TENANT We did so cautiously. Back ground and tenant reports came back clean. A mutual friend confirmed some of the tenant's story so we proceeded. She was given all rental documents to review a week prior to any commitment of rental. There were several concerns along the way but we continued cautiously. Our hearts were tender towards her story of a "single mom with a kid trying to get back on her feet". Upon move in, we had to adjust the lease agreement because of new developments. We commited to a 30 day lease with the option to renew each month, for 2 more months, as long as rent was paid on the 1st of each month. Half way through the first 30 days, we checked in to see if she would be renewing. She said she was looking for a cheaper place but wanted to stay if we didn't find a new tenant. We agreed to waive the required two week notice and said we would renew if she paid the rent in full on the 1st. We followed up at the end of the month to see what she was doing. She confirmed she could not afford to stay and it was agreed she would be out on the 30th. Later that day, she proceeded with an other story to negioate to stay a few more days. We could only agee to December 1 until noon because we had secured another tenant. On December 1st, she was not out by noon. She was ignoring all texts, phones calls and knocking at the door. This was an extreme shift in the behavior we had seen in the past 30 days. We began to get concerned for her well being. At 4pm, we entered the property after many notifications via text, phone calls, and 15 minutes of knocking at the door. When we entered the cottage and heard her voice/knew she was alive, we left the cottage. We informed her she had 30 minutes to be out before we called the police. She said she was not leaving implying she was going to squat and responsed with "do what you have to do". Given that response, we did not wait the 30 minutes. We called the police and informed her we had. Within 10 mintues, she began to put her belonging in her vehicle and was gone 10 minutes before the police arrived. She left a mess and damaged some items. We have successfully been renting our cottage for 10 years to long term and short term tenants. This was the first negative experience or exit we have had with a tenant.

    We have the pleasure of sharing Mathis Cottage with travelers until one of our parents needs to become a permanent resident. In doing so, it allows me to work from home and be more involved with our children and their activities, a life long dream of mine. Mathis Cottage is named in memory of our 6th child who is no longer with us. We hope your stay here is as special as he was to us.
