This place was perfect for my partner and I! Cute craftsman house with a nice front porch to relax on. Close to the highway and quick ride to downtown York and Wellspan where we were on assignment. Mary was a great host and easy to communicate with. Wish we were able to enjoy our stay longer but was not available earlier in our contract!

This had to be one of the worst landlords I had dealt with - not giving back the full deposit and charging extra!! She was also not very communicative, especially on matters about if she received payment or not. It could take her a whole day to respond, or a day later. After I had talked about having really bad anxiety around not having locks on the doors to the bathroom and bedrooms, she dismissed it, saying that I didn't need it. The neighbors sometimes had really loud fights outside, and that was scary for me. The house is beautiful and cozy, but the drainage got plugged up easily. Also, the house smelled bad no matter what I used to help rid of the musty, woody smell. The house is a 2 bedroom, not 3, and she charges extra to have a 2nd person live here. I think that the lack of responsiveness made it the worst, so I wouldn't recommend staying at this home for that reason.

Hello, Im so sorry you didnt enjoy your stay and have such strong dissent towards me! I strive to stay committed to transparency, finding reasonable solutions, and setting appropriate expectations and boundaries with all tenants. Humbly, you are the only past tenant to feel this way and discovering your review was beyond disappointing. Although it's now months later, I decided to take the opportunity to comment further on your review. I did my best to accommodate reasonable requests made by you, the first being allowing you to tour the property so you could make a fully informed decision and mitigate the anxieties you expressed, such as the importance of renting a clean and odorless unit. Tours are usually not offered since this is not a long-term rental. Except for the unfinished basement smelling like an unfinished basement (stone foundation), you never reported mustiness and/or general malodor during your stay, so its unfortunate you chose to use this platform to express that. I would assume if the house had an intolerable odor, you wouldnt have rented it. Its also no secret that the home contains an abundance of original hardwood which may explain what you describe as a woody odor. One day when I stopped by the property to drop a couple things off (middle of summer), I noticed you did not have the AC on. If you didnt use the AC often, this may have attributed to the odor you describe. Since having the opportunity to tour, you were aware there were no locks on the interior doors. When you requested locks to be added to the bedroom doors, I considered it and spoke with my contractor about logistics. After that, I explained to you that replacing the existing (antique) hardware and adding modern hardware would unfortunately not be done due to the landscape of the original doors, existing hardware, and adjacent trim. At no point in time were locks guaranteed or promised to you in advance. Soon after moving in, you mentioned a slower draining tub, but when I offered to have a plumber come take a look/snake the line, you said there wasnt water pooling anymore and that it wasn't necessary. That was the last time I heard of any plumbing issues and no clogs were ever reported during your stay. The house is, in fact, a legal 3-bedroom property with the middle bedroom intentionally set up with a desk instead of a twin-sized bed to accommodate remote travelers. This is disclosed and clarified in the listing. Apart from a $53 deduction from your security deposit for damaged bath towels, you were not charged extra fees. I shared respective photos of the damage along with paid receipts to show I was not wrongfully taking more than the cost to replace, and your remaining deposit was returned within 10 days of move-out. I also deducted your application fee from your initial deposits and came up with an incremental payment plan when you asked me for a payment accommodation. Security and cleaning fees are publicly disclosed in the listing and are mirrored in the lease. I can only conclude the extra fees you are referencing are standard penalty fees found on most leases (including my own) fees of which are only imposed if youre in violation of the lease. i.e. being charged replacement costs for damages to furnishings/property. More importantly, I want to make perfectly clear that Ive hosted plenty of couples, and none of them were charged extra for it being two people instead of one. Regarding receiving payments, I devise youre referencing the mistake made on Venmos behalf. When I performed a payment audit after you moved out, one of your past rent payments at a time unknown to me randomly changed to a lesser amount with no explanation or associated Venmo fee on my end. I had no idea what happened, but when I realized the discrepancy, I made sure everything was communicated to both you and your cosigner as soon as possible. I proceeded to return your security deposit minus the charge for the towels and missing portion of rent until it was fully sorted out with Venmo. It turned out that an erroneous, invisible Venmo fee was charged on my end, which could only be corrected by their support team and might take a few business days. This was extensively communicated to you and there was nothing else I could have done as a landlord to expedite Venmos plan of correction. Despite my efforts and open communication, you resorted to vehemently insulting me via text and refusing to answer your phone when I made several attempts to reach you. At the end of the day, this wasnt a good match! The house and I were never going to meet your expectations and thats okay. I wish you the best of luck in your future endeavors.

My significant other and I stayed at Ms lovely house from November-April while on a travel contract at WellSpan. The house was equipped with everything that we needed for our stay. M was such an easy host to work with, she was always reachable and quickly responded to any concerns/issues that we had. The neighborhood was pretty quiet, and it felt like a very safe street to live on. We both would highly recommend renting this house if your journeys lead you to York or the surrounding area!
