I stayed at Darlenes place from about May-August 2024 and in this review I will briefly address some major points I believe that any traveler would want to know before committing to a home away from home! 1. Location: About 10-15 minutes from most popular grocery stores and fast food restaurants! 2. Bedroom: I stayed in a different bedroom than what is shown in the listing and pictures have not been added. The room is much smaller than the other room currently shown and has not been renovated. The bedroom had all of the essentials for the most part except for a TV and mirror. However, the biggest challenge with the bedroom was the temperature. There is no central air in the home so the room was cold until the season changed to summer and then was extremely hot afterwards. The landlord tried her best to accommodate me with blankets first and then installing an AC unit later on. However, there were frequent problems with the circuit blowing since a number of AC units were on throughout the house simultaneously. This was rather frustrating but the landlord did provide a fan until we eventually figured out a permanent solution! 3. Bathroom: There is 1 bathroom (upstairs) and a 1/2 bath (downstairs) in the home. The 1/2 bath is completely off limits and is only for the landlord to use. Therefore, 1 bathroom was shared between 3 people at once since there was another tenant besides me along with the landlord using the shower. Additonally, the bathroom is next to the landlords bedroom so this was a little challenging for me because I occasionally worked late nights and everyone else in the home worked early mornings so it was nearly impossible for me to not be heard being that all of the bedrooms are right next to each other. However, we didnt have any problems with taking turns and the bathroom was kept clean with no clutter! 4. Kitchen/Dining: The kitchen has the basic essential appliances (microwave, oven, and coffee maker) and only some of the appliances are renovated (refrigerator and dishwasher). The landlord has dedicated kitchenware strictly for tenants to use. The biggest challenge with the kitchen is half of the refrigerator is for the landlord and the other half was split between me and the other tenant. Therefore, I only had 2 shelves in the refrigerator and 1 in the freezer. Additionally, me and the tenant shared a unit for cabinet space with only 2 shelves each and a drawer. However, everyone was mindful about cooking simple meals to avoid using the kitchen for too long which was very helpful. Also, occasionally the landlord would bake goodies and leave them out for her tenants which was a delicious treat! 5. Laundry: No access to the W/D unit in the home, however, there are many laundromats nearby. This would cost me about $30 to wash/dry two weeks of clothing and linens. I would recommend asking about this policy before you move in because according to the listing it appears as if W/D is available, however, upon moving in I found out the landlord changed her policy. 6. Pets: The landlord does have a cat named Sunshine. She is very sweet and mostly keeps to herself but occasionally there was hair and food remnants visible around the home. Additionally, there was a time the landlord asked if me or my roommate could care for Sunshine while she was on vacation and she was good! 7. Backyard: The landlord has a nice furnished patio space with a garden that is available for her guest. She was very kind and would leave flowers for her tenants to place in their rooms. Also, the landlord has chickens and would provide us with fresh eggs which was super sweet! 8. Parking: This is based on if you will have an additional roommate besides the landlord living in the home, so parking could be in the garage or on the street. Personally, I wasnt a fan of the street parking because other cars will have to drive in the other lane to navigate around your car since the road is fairly small. However, my car was always safe and the neighbors do a great job of looking out for each other so I felt comfortable leaving my car there! 9. Guest Policy: The landlord did not allow me to have guest initially until we became more acquainted with one another. She allowed my guest to stay for a couple of days and then after that she charged $25/night. 10. Quiet Hours: This was enforced by the landlord especially after 9-10pm since she wakes up very early for work. Overall, my stay at Darlenes place was affordable compared to the majority of other properties in the area. Although, I would have liked for some things to be different, such as the home being upgraded, I understand that these things take time. However, the landlord always tried her best to accommodate me which was appreciated. So, I would recommend this property to someone that is looking for an affordable place to stay that has all of the basic essentials along with being understanding and patient if something was to go wrong temporarily! I hope this review helps and good luck with your search!

I cant say enough good things about this wonderful place and landlord!!! I stayed here during my contract at Waterbury Hospital and the commute was very easy and a straight shot maybe 20 minutes!! I worked night shift and ran into no problems having an opposite schedule from D. Her home is clean and has everything you need for a wonderful stay with an adorable outdoor seating area to read a book and enjoy some coffee! My miniature schnauzer stayed with me during my stay and fell in love with D. On my assignments I typically do a lot of eating out for the convenience however D has a very nice kitchen with designated space for her tenants in the fridge/ freezer as well as room for dry goods! She had a nice coffee/ tea station in the dining room that offers single serve options! The area is very safe and I felt comfortable walking my doggo in the evening hours. Multiple places nearby to get groceries/coffee and a bite to eat. D makes herself very available for her tenants and is always a call or text away! The room is very spacious with multiple places to store your things! Huge walk in closet and large mirror to get ready!! Wonderful water pressure in the shower which is a MUST with long thick hair! Thank you D for being such a huge help and making my stay in CT one to remember!

I enjoy gardening, walking, and my passions are tennis and photography. I am quite neat, clean and organized. I am a "foody" and enjoy cooking and baking. Including canning and freezing veggies from my garden. I am relatively quiet especially on a work night. Occasionally I have friends over for a social evening of food , cards and/or games. I am not involved in drugs . I do not smoke. I drink occasionally. I am 65 ( but very active) year old single woman. Independent and happy. I hope this helps:)
