This apartment has been such an absolute pleasure to call home for the past 1.5 years. I moved in assuming it would only be for a few months until I wanted a bigger place with my own furniture, but fell in love with the well-appointed space and neighborhood. Nancy the owner lives upstairs and felt more like a (very helpful) neighbor than a landlord from the start. She and Birdie (her adorable grey and white cat) were wonderful to share the property with, never imposing but always nice to run into a few times a week for a chat (or in Birdies case, a head pat). This is technically a studio apartment but the space is set up such that it feels more like a one bedroom, with plenty of storage. The bathroom is huge, and the kitchen is full size. I am only moving out to move into my partners house; the storage is honestly better in this apartment than our 3 bed house, but the living space is just a bit too small for two people. I will miss Nancy, Birdie, the house, and neighborhood dearly.

The worst living situation I've ever experienced as a medical traveler. Unit was covered in cobwebs/dead/live bugs/ants upon arrival! They were crawling on me every night as I slept. I struggled to stay awake during 10 hour shifts at work. Ant traps were provided but did not help. When I expressed that I wanted my deposit back, she came into the unit with a notepad, aggressively/confrontational and said "how odd that ants are only in the bedroom", blamed me for her unsanitary unit and was pointing/yelling at me like a child, saying "I don't care, I don't want to hear it" when I expressed my feelings/showed her the vids/photos. This made me feel anxious/stressed/uncomfortable. She lacked compassion for my feelings and tried to blame me. Her responses to my texts were insensitive and rude. Our job is stressful enough. We need a quiet, safe/clean place to come home to after a long day. She walked very loudly late at night when I was resting. I left the place cleaner than when I moved in.

As veteran landlords, it has always been our intention to provide safe, clean, affordable accommodations. Every attempt was made to appease this tenant's complaints. When we inspected for ants, we did indeed find a few, but not the swarm she claims. Immediate abatement was started. Along with providing and placing ant traps, the exterior of the property was treated to create a barrier to their entry. When we attempted to explain that 1) ant remedies take time and 2) don't keep food waste in the trash bin, we were cut off from speaking and accused of making excuses and blaming her. Additionally, we provided a mattress topper for her at our expense, because she felt the bed was too hard for her comfort. It was quickly apparent that her anxious and obsessive behavior was going to continue escalate and so we offered an immediate release from her signed contract and full deposit refund which she agreed to. It took another 3 weeks for the tenant to move on. We wish her well on her journey.

Hi and welcome! I am a freelance graphic designer and empty nester. I moved to Bellingham from Denver 16 years ago and couldn't have found a better place to live in. I love to cook and garden, and play golf. Even though I love dogs, I have an aging resident kitty who owns the place.
