Master room with kitchenette and private bathroom

This was a nice place with a fenced in patio in the Palos Verdes hills. Everything was as advertised. The owner, Rich, was a nice guy. We got along great. I'll be going back...

I stayed with Rich from September 2018 August 2023 through furnished finder. This was almost 5 years living with him and his wonderful family and I can say that I had an exceptional experience. I am a traveling nurse with almost 10 years traveling experience from Philadelphia all the way to San Francisco, and I can confidently say that staying with Rich was by far my best experience and Ill explain why. From our initial interaction when I signed the lease, he exemplified his great communication skills by explaining the house rules simply and thoroughly and was always available via text or phone call if I needed anything. I never had any surprises. The studio was very affordably priced, for its location and amenities (Clean Private updated bathroom, good working washer and dryer, soundproof walls, updated floors, new painting, private balcony, keyless entry, updated appliances etc). He was always courteous by giving me a heads up if he had guests over and nicely invited me over to join in gatherings or for dinners with his family if I was available. As a pilot, he fully understood the difficulties of working away from home and knew that traveling professionals appreciated feeling at home. I had a great relationship with his lovely kids and even his personal friends who always greeted or said hi to me if I happen to run into anyone on the compound. Noise was never an issue since the walls directly to my bedroom were soundproof. He even updated his back yard while I was living there and made sure to work only when I was off or out of town. I can remember a few occasions when he went the extra mile to pick me up from the airport once or twice when I was stranded after a long flight. He even allowed me to use his garage to keep my car one time when I had to be out of the country for a few weeks. I never had any issues with appliances, or the upkeep of the house. Hedges and grass were regularly trimmed, the house was kept clean and updated. I truly felt safe and comfortable during my stay with Rich. I highly recommend his place.

At first I was going to keep it short and sweet and move on, but the landlord has the highest level of audacity I have experienced in a while. First of all Richs places was filthy when I came in. There short hairs in the drawers. I hope to the Lord almighty that they were was hair and not Pubic hair(I wish I can insert the pictures I have). The floors were dirty (I didnt notice how dirty the floors were when I saw the place). The floors literally had sand especially by the closet. Microwave was dirty and there was still sliced turkey in the fridge when I moved in. Hed definetly did not clean the place after the last person left. I never expected I would have to ask someone to clean their home before I move in or that I would have to freaking deep clean the damn place myself. I should have ran for the hills, but i was literally moving things in when i noticed how nasty things were (at first glance everything looks fine until u actually look). I already paid deposit and first months rent, so I was stuck. I have never had an experience like that with furnished finder or any other rental apps before. I sent him the videos I took of the place and he took off $100 for one monthss rent which was nothing especially with how bad the place was. Then he had to put in solar panels this summer. He never asked What days I would be off so my sleep wouldnt be disturbed by the mad bangings. He just told me when it was happening and said sorry for the inconvenience. Are dumb sir?! He just expect me to deal with the loud ass noise (meanwhile he made sure to leave the house when they solar panels were being placed). When I told him that he will have to find me other accommodations since I cant stay in the house, he definitely wasnt pleased. I had to go to work so tired for those days. He would slam his door and the walls are thin. I brought it to his attention and it still kept happening. Mind you I work night shift and its hard for me to sleep if Im woken up (the noises were the last straw for me. You cant mess with a persons rest). He is a freaking pilot, so he should know how important sleep is. One time he was having a full conversation on the driveway in front of the room with a friend when I was trying to sleep for work. He just doesnt seem to consider that there is someone else sharing the home (the studio is attached to the house). There is only one working electric pot. There is another small pot that is at the end of its life that doesnt hav a lid. The fridge stopped working. Thankfully he got another. I just dont think that he actually cares about the people coming into the space. Its definitely just about the money for him. Then he had the audacity to deduct a cleaning fee because I didnt clean the place to his standards when I left. That is not my job! He doesnt seem to understand that its the responsibility of the landlord to make sure the place is clean before and after renting to someone. I washed the sheets, wiped the counters and swept the floors (I do thins for every place I have stayed), but Im not going to deep clean the damn place. hats ur freaking responsibility. The laundry room is in the garage, literally in a corner with so much crap in the bathroom and washing machine stinks. I sometimes do my laundry at a laundromat. There are over grown branches with torns by the pathway to the laundry room (hoarders garage) that have scratched my clothes and arms. I have never experienced anything like this in all my years of traveling. Im flabbergasted. just dont get how his brain works. Im glad I left. I have evidence of everything.
