I stayed at the Cozy Cottage for only a month (but would have stayed longer, my hospital contract just got unexpectedly canceled). I absolutely loved it!! The space is indeed super cozy, and has everything I needed to feel at home. The bed is really comfortable, the kitchenette had everything I needed, and I found myself looking forward to coming home every day after a long day of work or exploring the outdoors. The location can't be beat, within walking distance to downtown Middlebury or parts of the TAM. John and Nicole were respectful of my privacy but also very responsive. Highly recommend!

I stayed in a Furnish Finder tiny home in Middlebury, Vermont, for six months. The home itself was well-maintained, clean, and efficiently designed to maximize the small space. Despite the lack of a kitchen, I was able to manage with alternative meal arrangements. The location was ideal for a small towneverything Middlebury has to offer is within a 5 to 15-minute drive, making it a convenient spot for traveling professionals. However, my experience with the hosts was far from ideal. When I initially found the listing on Furnish Finder, I communicated with them about my flexible start date due to the hospitals scheduling uncertainties. They reassured me that they understood the nature of travel contracts and assured me they were flexible. Unfortunately, that turned out to be misleading. After signing the lease and paying a $1,000 security deposit plus the first months rent of $1,000, they later demanded additional payment for the days I had not yet moved indespite already holding my security deposit and my clear communication about the start date adjustments. This shift in attitude after securing my commitment felt deceptive and financially motivated. The issues did not stop there. Upon moving out, I expected to receive my full security deposit back, as I had been a clean and nondestructive tenant. However, just two days before my departure, while finalizing move-out details, I was suddenly informed of an undisclosed cleaning fee that had never been mentioned before or included in the lease agreement. When I questioned the charge, the host initially said that if he had forgotten to include it in the lease, I should disregard it. But after reviewing the lease himself and realizing there was no mention of a cleaning fee, he then tried to justify the charge by referencing a vague lease clause stating the home must be returned in as good a condition as when delivered. As someone who has traveled the world and rented numerous properties, I have never encountered such a dishonest practice. If a cleaning fee was required, it should have been disclosed and agreed upon before move-in, not sprung on me at the last minute. This lack of transparency left me feeling robbed, as I had no idea how much money would be deducted or when I would receive my deposit. Despite thoroughly cleaning the home from top to bottom in hopes that he would reconsider withholding funds, he still deducted $100 from my deposit for this so-called cleaning fee, leaving me with only $900 of my original $1,000 deposit. While the property itself met my needs, the hosts lack of integrity and clear attempts to extract extra money from tenants made this a frustrating experience. I would recommend this property for its convenience and overall comfort, but I strongly advise future renters to be cautious, get everything in writing, and be prepared for potential hidden fees upon move-out.

We are very saddened to hear that you felt we were attempting to deceive you. Nothing could be further from the truth. When you secure a lease it is based on the dates of the lease, your rent is due from the first date on that lease, not the date that you arrive at the property. This is standard practice and someone who has rented before should have been aware of these facts. I was honoring the order that you contacted us, just ahead of several other travelers. Based on that, I spoke with you on the phone and accepted your deposit, even although one of the other travelers was here in tears with cash in hand for the apartment. In spite of that, your deposit took several days to come through. I can't tell you how hard it was for us to turn the other nurse away, forcing her to stay in her car simply because I was honoring the order of the received inquires for the apartment. The flexibility we add to the contract is allow travelers to break the lease with 10 days notice, if your contract with the hospital is canceled, not allow you to reserve an apartment unpaid to lock others out of any chance to have a place to live. From now on, it is first with the deposit that will get the apartment. The modest cleaning fee is listed, right on the Furnished Finder page, and also covered in the contract as you pointed out. We ensure that the apartment is professionally cleaned for the next guest, just as it was for you. We wish you safe travels in the future and the best for luck obtaining future housing.

My spouse and I have a very cute, small, furnished efficiency apartment attached to our house. We know how hard it is to find space in Middlebury and we wanted to help with that problem.
