We have named The Heirloom Rose after our property, due to its historic roots and its breathtaking climbing roses.

There is nothing more mystical than the full moon filling the landscape with glorious blue light. Due to our pristine location, some nights are so bright that you can just about read under the moonlight.
If you look very carefully, you'll see thousands of migrating Aleutian Geese taking a rest-stop in our fields, as we are right along the Pacific Flyway. In Fall and Winter, the back half of the property becomes a refuge for diverse variety of migratory birds. Our favorites? The Tundra Swans.

Visit our beautiful rustic park-like garden brimming with wildlife, rambling roses, Victorian-inspired hedges, trees, perennial plants, and you will see why we named your studio the Heirloom Rose! While many species bloom off and on year-round come in May and June for our best display of roses.
We have a friendly crazy tabby cat named Linus who may want to play with you. Linus will roam the property with you and be your tour guide, but please don't feed him or let him into your studio (even if he begs at the window).
Here is our cat Linus, right at home with the deer. Our rustic, wild garden is also a refuge for a diverse species of nesting birds, beneficial insects, tree frogs and toads.
An heirloom rose clambers almost 50 feet into a redwood tree. As you can see by the size of one of our deer friends, these roses are a jaw-dropping display of glory!

Historic Ferndale, 5 minutes drive from your "home", is a must see popular tourist destination, as it has been featured as one of America's prettiest towns. You truly feel like you are in a Victorian town in the 1950's - laid back, friendly, and full of unique and homey charm, and yes, all the action is on Main Street!
HOST FAVORITE FOR BIRD-WATCHING - Hookton Slough in Loleta - View from the left side of the trail. This is an amazing and scenic path that follows a historic dike along Hookton Slough, one of the branches of Humboldt Bay. The dike is topped by a gravel road with interpretive signs. Distance one-way is about 1.5 miles. You will see a wide variety of shore birds, geese, swans, ducks and migratory wildlife depending on the time of year.
HOST FAVORITE FOR BIRD-WATCHING - Humboldt Bay National Wildlife Refuge in Loleta. Walk along scenic trails and dikes for a variety of views of ponds, sheltered areas, sloughs, and lowland meadows.
HOST FAVORITE- Trinidad Head in Trinidad. Enjoy the local beach - a beautiful sheltered ocean cove. Trinidad Head itself on your left. Climb up the hill by following a short road (on your right) that turns into a trail that takes you up to the top with several viewpoints and park benches featuring drop-dead gorgeous 360 degree views of the ocean. Continue on the trail to connect to a road on the other side of the head which loops you back to where you started.
HOST FAVORITE FOR MOST SCENIC OCEAN VIEW TRAILS - Patrick's Point State Park. Walk along scenic trails bordering the rugged coastline for absolutely breathtaking panoramic ocean views. Of all the giant amazing rocks, Wedding Rock is the most famous and worth exploring. Then head to the Agate Beach parking lot, and follow beautifully forested short trail down to to the ocean beach. Come at low tide so you can walk long stretches of the coastline to search for agates, shells and fossils!
HOST FAVORITE FOR BEST HIKE IN THE REDWOODS - James Irvine Trail in Orick. There are many trails at Prairie State Park and the James Irvine Trail is our favorite. You feel as though you've stepped to a magical fairy forest. Giant redwoods, trilliums, ferns, and shamrocks border the trail, giving it the appearance of a manicured woodland garden. Keep in mind that this trail will connect you to famous Fern Canyon, but be warned, it is a very long walk back to your car.
