When two traveling healthcare professionals from Kentucky arrived in North Dakota, they expected a few months of work and a new view. Instead, they found themselves at the center of a close-knit community—one that would need their help more than anyone realized.
Their contracts, originally brief, were extended multiple times, allowing them to experience all four seasons in North Dakota. They quickly made themselves at home—shoveling snow in the winter, taking out the trash weekly for their host, Laura, and helping maintain the property. But their most remarkable act of kindness came after a summer storm brought hurricane-force winds and tornadoes to the region.
In the wake of the destruction, they didn’t wait to be asked. They asked where they could find gloves, tools, and chainsaws to help the local cleanup efforts. “It struck me as very special that they pitched into the work to help restore our community,” Laura said.
Laura has hosted many wonderful tenants since she began renting out part of her home through Furnished Finder more than two years ago. Each has brought something unique—whether it’s a shared meal, a potted flower as a thank-you, or a conversation on the back patio. But this pair stood out for their consistent thoughtfulness and deep desire to give back.
Hosting, for Laura, has been more than just a financial solution. A survivor of domestic violence, she turned to Furnished Finder as a way to keep the home she loved after divorce. “I’m a survivor and financially secure thanks to this service,” she said. “It’s been a wonderful experience for me and comforting to have others in my home.”
Laura continues to rent two separate units in her home and has built a reputation for being warm, responsive, and generous—earning a five-star review from a tenant who appreciated the garden-fresh veggies, quiet privacy, and thoughtful hospitality.
