The question every landlord asks before listing
"Is Furnished Finder legit?"
It's the right question to ask before you spend time, effort, and money on a platform you're new to. Most landlords we've talked to have one version or another of the same worry: Is this a real business that's going to produce real inquiries, or am I about to pay for crickets?
Here's the honest evaluation.
The company
Furnished Finder is a U.S. company headquartered in Austin, Texas. We've been operating since 2014. The platform hosts more than 300,000 listings across the country and serves over 6 million travelers a year. We're growing, and not going anywhere.
You don't have to take our word for it. Read recent press coverage, check out our podcast(opens in new tab) (opens in new tab), and check out our reviews(opens in new tab) (opens in new tab).
The business model
Here's the part of "legit" that matters most to landlords: how does the platform make money, and what does that mean for what you pay?
Landlords pay a low, flat rate per year to list. That's it. We don't take a percentage of rent. We don't take a booking fee. We don't sit in the middle of the transaction. The $199 is what you pay to be on the platform for a year, regardless of how much you book.
That's a different model from Airbnb or VRBO, which take a percentage on every booking. The trade-off is real and worth understanding.
On a commission platform, the platform's incentives and yours are different. They earn more when you charge more, but they also keep a piece of every dollar. On Furnished Finder, our incentive is to keep landlords on the platform year over year. The way we do that is by producing inquiries that turn into bookings.
What you get for your annual listing price
A listing visible to a national audience of working-professional tenants searching specifically for monthly furnished rentals
Inquiry tools, calendar, and messaging
Placement on a platform that has 6M+ travelers a year actively looking for what you're offering
A tenant base that leans stable and long: traveling professionals, military families, relocating professionals, medical guests, corporate consultants on assignment, remote workers on multi-month stays
What you don't get for your subscription price is a property manager. You'll handle your own lease, screen your own tenants, collect your own rent, and run the rental on your terms. That's by design. If you wanted a property manager you would have hired one and paid 10% of every month's rent. On Furnished Finder, the percentage we don't take is what stays in your pocket. The good news? We have optional tools available for every landlord primed for your use including tenant screening, lease creation, and more.
Who the platform works for
Furnished Finder works well for:
Landlords with a furnished property near demand drivers — hospitals, corporate campuses, military bases, universities, medical centers, universities, city centers, growing areas, and more
Landlords looking for monthly bookings rather than nightly turnover
Landlords who want to keep 100% of their rent and pay a flat platform fee
It works less well for:
Landlords looking for a short-term rental site. Furnished Finder is built for stays of 30 days or longer. If you want weekenders, Airbnb is the right tool.
Landlords who want the platform to handle the rental for them. We don't. We connect you to tenants; you run the rental. (And can use our suite of tools if desired)
Landlords in markets with very thin monthly demand. The math depends on demand. A property near major demand drivers will book consistently. A property in a thin market will book less often.
The honest version: Furnished Finder isn't for every property. It's the right fit for furnished monthly rentals near monthly demand, run by landlords who prefer flat fees and a direct relationship with their tenants.
So is it legit?
Yes. As an established, Austin-based marketplace with 300,000+ listings and millions of travelers a year is a real business doing real volume. The subscription price buys you a year of access to a national audience of monthly renters. The math works when your property fits the model.
If the model fits, the platform is one of the lowest-friction ways to fill a furnished monthly rental in the country. If the model doesn't fit, that's worth knowing before you list.
Frequently asked questions
How does Furnished Finder make money if it doesn't take a commission?
Landlords pay a small price each year to list. That's the entire revenue model on the marketplace side. The subscription is what lets us keep both sides fee-free on bookings.
Does Furnished Finder screen tenants for me?
No, however Furnished Finder offers a tenant screening product within the marketplace that screens potential tenants. Powered by TransUnion, and paid for by the tenant, this screening gives you a view of the potential tenant's credit history, eviction history, and criminal background check.
Are bookings guaranteed?
No platform can guarantee bookings. What we provide is the marketplace and the audience. Booking success depends on your property, your pricing, and how you handle inquiries.
How long has Furnished Finder been around?
Since 2014. Headquartered in Austin, Texas.
