Last-Minute Cancellation Left Me Without Housing

I want to share my experience so other renters are aware. I agreed to rent the room, paid the deposit, and also paid for and completed the background screening requested by the landlord. Less than one day before my scheduled move-in, I was told that the room was no longer available due to an emergency. The deposit was refunded, but by that point I had stopped looking for other housing and was left with less than a day to find another place to stay. I understand that emergencies happen, but this last-minute cancellation put me in a very difficult situation.
