A wonderful home base in Mid City!
My boyfriend and I had an amazing month at the Cottage on Canal. The space is huge and tastefully decorated and the location was perfect. We were close to grocery stores, bars, and restaurants, and a quick walk from the beautiful City Park. We visited during Jazz Fest and it was only a 25 minute walk to the Fair Grounds. The place was well-stocked with all the essentials: coffee, spices, cleaning supplies, towels, laundry detergent. Our hosts, Elaine and Ben, were super friendly and kind to us and were accessible by phone when we had questions or needed help with anything. They also provide a big binder full of information about the house and recommendations for things to do in the city. By far our favorite part of our stay was spending time on the huge covered back porch! They have plenty of string lights, a TV, and a grill back there and it was the perfect place to unwind after exploring the city all day. We had a fabulous stay and we hope to come back as soon as possible!
It has everything you could want and more!
I spent a week at this rental along with my mom and two sisters and it was the perfect place for us. To start with, the owner was there to meet us and walk us through everything. She offered us suggestions for places to eat and visit and she answered any and all questions we had. The home is lovely and nicely decorated; we had more than enough space and loved having a full kitchen at our disposal. The front and back porches are incredible and call for you to sit and relax. And the location is absolute perfection! It's walking distance to a grocery store, restaurants, beautiful cemeteries and City Park. There is also a street car stop practically in front of the house. The neighborhood itself is lovely and safe. We walked around in the evening to enjoy the gorgeous weather and never once did we feel unsafe. If I ever find myself visiting New Orleans again, I would definitely want to stay at the Cottage on Canal Street!
wonderful long term rental
My 8 month stay at this beautifully maintained, gorgeous home right on canal could not have been more perfect. From a kind and attentive family welcoming me to New Orleans, to quick responses for maintenance and questions, I absolutely loved my time at the cottage! I ended up extending in the city twice as a travel nurse far more for the area and living in B and E's home than necessarily the work I was doing. The house is well stocked, comfortable and so livable. Located right on the street car line, and a short drive anywhere in the city; convenient to all major hospitals. As a single female, I felt safe in this block of Mid-City and often walked to the gorgeous City Park and other restaurants/grocery stores/activities in the neighborhood. I also took the street car into town for most events, concerts and parades. Easy 10 minute Uber back home in the evenings. It was simply the perfect stay complete with a new family to call friends and the most gorgeous patio to enjoy at night
Jazzfest Returns
The "Cottage on Canal" should be called the "Hidden Gem on Canal". The rental is located in the safest part of New Orleans and I always felt secure there, especially with the outdoors lights both in front and the rear of the house. It is located directly on the streetcar line to take you into the French Quarter and very close to several other streetcar and bus lines for access all around the city. There are also several excellent restaurants in Mid City within walking distance. There are grocery stores, drug stores and even a Dollar Tree, all within a few blocks away (even a cart is provided at the house for the heavier loads). The owners have detailed all relevant information about New Orleans and the surrounding area in a guide book and have included all amenities for your stay. The house and back porch are beautifully decorated and it is very easy to make yourself feel at home there. I wish I could give them more than five stars and I am already planning a trip back here!
Perfect Gem in heart of New Orleans, Experience all that the city has to offer in this classic New Orleans Cottage
I had the pleasure of staying at this precious listing. I have been a travel RN for 2 years now and this was by far the best housing i have had thus far. The pricepoint is budget friendly, roomate friedly & well under standard housing stipends. Spotless, fully stocked with the essentials and the most gracious owner. You are accross the street from the streetcar line (a straight shot to the French Quarter. Walk to get groceries and many amazing local eateries/bars/shops. The street is incredibly well lit andI always felt safe- in my opinion the highgest priority in this city. Rent this! Enjoy!
Cottage on Canal Street
Extremely gracious hosts. The property is centrally located for reaching City Park and the French Quarter. Also, bike trails are within 3 blocks and the street car stop is essentially right out the front door. The apartment is spacious, very well stocked and appointed and met all of our home-away-from-home needs. Assuming it is not rented, we would definitely stay here again next year.
Absolutely perfect for all of our needs.
Ben and Elaine are very warm and conscientious landlords. They checked in frequently to make sure I had everything I needed, but also maintained distance for my privacy. Their place was immaculate and well equipped to make it my "home away from home." I had a car so it was easy to get around; however, there is a streetcar that is very easily accessed. To say they are the epitome of "Southern hospitality" would be an understatement. They truly are wonderful people that I would gladly befriend if I lived in New Orleans year round. I highly recommend their home for your stay in New Orleans.
Great Place!
What a wonderful place to stay! We used the property as extended stay lodging while visiting family. Convenient location close to the streetcar and safe neighborhood. Furnishings are lovely and the property owners are easy to get in touch with. Would definitely use this again!
