Private room in Coos Bay, Oregon
Landlord Tenure: 5 years, 1 month
Beautiful residential property with mature gardens surrounded by urban forest- quiet and private- Only 15 minutes to beach, close to Coos Bay, North Bend, Bandon and Coquille medical facilities. Wood fired sauna and outdoor spa available for addition costs. Rent is $350 paid weekly, or $1,000 per month.
Overpriced but pleasant
The place is bright and the property is beautiful. Would have rated higher except for the state when I moved in- cobwebs and spiders in every corner- but the owner was receptive and accommodating and once cleaned, it was pleasant. The space is tiny, no light above the kitchen, and no garbage service so I soon moved out in search of a space with more room for general activities. However, this is a great option for a nature-loving minimalist and the host was very kind.
Beautiful, secluded and friendly environment
Sitka was a very accommodating host. The property is beautiful and secluded, and has everything you need for a beautiful stay on the Oregon coast. She is a very kind person, and would bend over backwards to make things right as long as you communicate with her. I had absolutely no problems at all when I stayed there, and enjoyed myself fully. I was very happy to meet her, and if there was anything that I needed all I had to do was ask and we could always work things out. I would definitely recommend staying there.
sweet affordable cottage room
This room had a rural cottage feel and was just what I needed while working in Coos Bay for 5 weeks over the summer. It is surrounded by lovely gardens and little secluded yards where I read and ate in the sun. The room was quiet, dark and peaceful for sleeping with the windows open and a big comforter, even in summer. The separate entry hall allowed me to be independent and not walk through owner's living spaces and to park my bike outside the door for commuting two miles to work in the town of Coos Bay. Bathroom was bright with lots of closet space / shelves for luggage and extras. Kitchenette is small, but I cooked three "one pan" full meals every day and set up a sweet desk area on the table by a window with a kiwi tee outside. I did not use the wood stove, but it added to the ambiance. The owner was interesting, friendly and shared her love of local adventures and plants. Hilly neighborhood streets were good for walking.
Very Uncomfortable and Overpriced
I stayed here for 3 months (very few housing options here) while working a contract at Bay Area Hospital. The room the owner rents is tiny, smells, has dirty carpet, cheap and very uncomfortable furniture, a kitchen area so small it's not functional; the list goes on. I found moldy food in two different places when I moved in and there were cob webs everywhere as if she never cleaned it. Unless she changed the situation there is not a washer/dryer she lets you use in the house. The entrance to the rental room is not the door pictured in the ad; you have to go through a sort of mud room which has no light so you fumble around in the dark getting to your room at night. The list goes on. This would all maybe be acceptable if it were 25% of current price. I tried discussing the issues with her calmly and without sounding like I was accusing her; she wasn't interested.
