Cottage in Portland, Oregon
Landlord Tenure: 4 years, 4 months
This is a quiet, backyard unit in a residential neighborhood. Walking distance to shops and restaurants on Fremont Street, NE 42nd Street and Alberta Street (longer walk). Studio with comfortable queen size bed, airfryer/toaster oven, hot plate, microwave, and cooking/eating utensils. Backyard setting, vaulted ceilings....Very sweet!
GG
Tastefully furnished fully equipped light filled cozy studio. The studio has a private entrance and patio in the garden. Clean and bright , close to restaurants and shopping places. Safe and quite walkable streets.
Small but sufficient, location is perfect!
This backyard cottage is super cute and cozy, close to everything in Portland, and perfect for a travel nurse. The bed is comfortable, the shower is hot with great water pressure, the patio is a nice place to relax, & there's plenty of storage for clothes. The landlord and her dog are super sweet and good about privacy, she was also very flexible with my move timeline & using the shared W/D. The apt was only a 10 minute drive to PPMC and 15-20min to St. Vincent's. Overall, a great little place to stay. Only cons are the sky light & the small kitchen. In summer, it would get light at 5 in the morning and there's no way to cover the sky light, so I had to buy a mask. Probably not great for a nightshifter unless you don't mind wearing an eye mask all the time. Also, there was no kitchen sink so it was a little difficult to wash dishes in the bathroom sink since it is very shallow. However, none of these were big deals in the grand scheme of things and I would definitely stay here again.
Satisfied
Loved this property! Owner and her family made me feel very welcomed. I love how the place is detached so it feels like your own apartment. The place itself has a relaxing/cabin vibe to it almost! I had all the amenities that I needed. Its a smoke free place (Im a smoker) she even had a sitting area outside to accommodate that. Would definitely stay again if Im ever in town!
Disappointed
My biggest issue with this property is that it was listed as non smoking at the time of booking. The day I arrived, the landlord acknowledged that the previous tenant had smoked outside. However, there was a lingering smoke smell on the bed. Later, when I would do my own cleaning of the area, I found cigarette ash in the bathroom mat. I stayed from 4/12-4/30 in this property. During that time, I attempted to solve the issue by airing out the room, washing the sheets, and putting a hypoallergenic cover over the mattress. None of this worked, and I had to leave after getting a skin flare up. When I asked the owner to refund me the days I had not used, she refused. I tried to reason that the environment was having an effect on my health. But she would still not issue the refund. She offered to let me stay til May 12th, but following the advice of my Nurse Practitioner to not return, I declined. Based on my experience, I could not recommend this property to people.
