Location, location, location!
We're grateful to Glenn for responding to our housing request exactly when needed. It allowed us to be close to friends in the area. For the price, this was a good find in Rochester. This little place is 1.5 blocks from St. Mary's Hospital and easily walkable to Methodist Hospital. Because all or most Rochester buses go to downtown Rochester, you can get anywhere in Rochester faster if you live in this area. My son took a direct bus half a block from this place to a job in a different quadrant of Rochester. It was almost door-to-door and you could get to almost any Rochester employment location or school easily by bus from this house; the Rochester bus system is excellent. The apartment consists of a sunny bedroom with two windows, a small closet, and exactly the right furniture for comfort with an option for a second person; a sunny kitchen with two windows and a cute table for two; and a one-person bathroom with a shower tub and a window. You will never be cold in this apartment as it's kept toasty warm in the winter, but you can crack a window if it's too warm or if you need fresh air. There is a portable AC unit provided as well but we didn't need it. So, we had clean air at the right temperature. The floors were hard floors with a few small washable rugs. Basic supplies and kitchen items were provided. One bath towel and one dish towel are provided, plus a kitchen sponge, dish soap, toilet paper, and 409. We used our InstantPots for cooking instead of the gas stove/oven, and the small microwave handled all we needed to heat quite well. The Mr. Coffee machine worked well to brew from ground coffee. A toaster was provided, but we didn't use it. This is a second-floor, back-of-house unit, so you don't hear much street noise. You are sharing the house, so we heard a little bit of human noise, mostly around dinnertime, but it was usually quiet in the house and very quiet at 8 pm or later. We got to know two neighbors who were kind and helpful. Though we gave them small gifts, they didn't expect it. The apartment itself is sized for one person but worked for two for a one-month stay. The trundle bed separates which could be helpful if you slightly rearranged the furniture. We slept well while there. My son liked the lounge chair, and I put the floor cushion on the box in front of the chair to make him a footstool. It's wonderful to have garage parking so close to St. Mary's as parking is hard to find near Mayo and the shuttle system for Mayo parking lots can be time-consuming and require a lot of scraping ice and brushing snow off the car. At first, I didn't think I could park my vintage Bronco in the narrow garage but I folded my side mirrors, tried, and mastered it quickly. I did have to switch stalls with a housemate to have more outside room to get it due to the length of my Bronco. For average-size cars, it's much easier. Each stall is plenty long, probably about 20 feet long. Most tenants leave the garage doors open as they are heavy. Parking here will train you to park in any garage in Rochester as many in the older homes are this width. This is longer than some in Rochester, though. Glenn and Heidi are personable and polite. They are understanding and hardworking as well. I usually got a quick response from Glenn and Heidi was very gracious at checkout.
