Wonderful Stay at The Cottage
My husband is a travel nurse, and we stayed at "The Cottage" for almost six months while he was on a contract in the Gorge. It truly felt like a home away from home. It was such a comfortable space and had absolutely everything we needed for an extended stay.
One of our favorite features was the beautiful three-season porch with the incredible views of Mt. Adams. The location is ideal (peaceful yet convenient to the hospital, parks, grocery stores, local restaurants and shopps) and everything about the stay was easy and enjoyable. We honestly would have stayed longer if we could have.
We can’t recommend The Cottage enough. It’s a special place, and Bengt is a wonderful host.

Fellow heathcare travelers be warned
As a solo female healthcare traveler (scrub tech), in my opinion, I WOULD NOT STAY AT THIS PROPERTY again based on my experience. I had originally planned to stay for several months but left after 6 nights due to multiple issues. In hindsight, I should have left after the first night. I encountered an ant infestation in the kitchen on move in day then my continued stay I found ants in multiple rooms, including the bedroom, with ants observed on the bed and pillows, as well as cleanliness concerns. The move-out interaction was very distressing, and I felt unsafe & scared. I documented these issues and ultimately left early. I do not care what the landlord's review of me will be after this truthful review. I just want to protect my fellow travelers. Be stay safe.
We are sad to see Brittanys review and surprised at the level of mischaracterization she provides in her statement. We invite prospective guests to check out our reviews on Airbnb for a more accurate representation of our place (Mountain View Cottage in Hood River). We have operated the cottage in Hood River as a short- and mid-term rental for over 12 years on Airbnb, and more recently have expanded our listing to Furnished Finder. Brittany is the first to have reviewed us on the Furnished Finder platform.
Over the 12+ years weve been on Airbnb, we have been rated 313 times and have a rating of 4.82 (out of 5 stars possible). We are a Super Host on the Airbnb platform, and our property is a Guest Favorite and One of the most loved homes on Airbnb, according to guests. Airbnb also states on their website that This home is a guest favorite based on ratings, reviews, and reliability. We have worked hard to achieve these high ratings, and are proud of our cottage, our professional cleaning service, and the welcoming, flexible and positive way we treat our guests. Our most recent rating on Airbnb was 5 stars, from the couple who moved out of the cottage the day before Brittany arrived.
Brittanys arrival happened to coincide with the annual hatch of ants that occurs in the gorge each spring. We get ants in the cottage and in our own home for a very short period each spring, usually two or three days. We visited the cottage within an hour of Brittanys arrival to check on the infestation she reported to us. At that point we counted a total of seven ants in the kitchen, and none elsewhere in the house. She demanded a whole-house fumigation and we declined. As long-term residents of the gorge, we do not view seven ants as an infestation but of course we all see things differently. In any case, we did not believe this small number of ants warranted releasing a toxic fumigant throughout the home. We offered ant traps instead, which we have found to be effective for these annual and short-term inconveniences. That was not a satisfactory solution to Brittany, and as it became clear that we would not be able to make her happy with anything short of a whole-house fumigation, we suggested she might want to find another place to live that would be more comfortable for her. We offered to cancel her signed rental agreement and refund all of the money she had paid for the first month of rent, along with her entire deposit. She declined at that time, but later that week accepted our offer. It is important to note that Brittany moved out 6 days after arriving, and during the exit inspection of the cottage there was not a single ant to be found anywhere in the kitchen, the bedroom or anywhere else in the cottage.
We are sorry the cottage didnt work out for Brittany. We bent over backwards for her throughout the process (lowering the rent for her, lowering it even further when she asked for a greater reduction, foregoing the last months rent deposit that we typically require, and scheduling the housekeepers for an extra early Saturday morning cleaning to accommodate her requested early arrival). There was never a single kind word in response from Brittany, or any positive humanity shared during her brief time at the cottage. We anticipated a poor review from her based on her sensitivity to the ants, but its incomprehensible how a few ants in the house could have led to the review she provided--and worse, to the bullying and dishonest treatment we received directly from her throughout the week of her tenancy, which included numerous demanding texts and emails at all hours of the day and as late as 1 a.m. in the morning.
Brittanys dire review of the cottage is inaccurate and stands in stark contrast to the reviews we have received over 12 years of renting the cottage. Her review is also hard to reconcile with the 5 star review we received from guests leaving the day before she arrived. We hope prospective guests will take these facts into account when considering her spiteful review of the cottage.
