Spacious house in wonderful location
I rented Jim's house for a month over the holidays. It is quite large and very well-furnished and well-equipped -- it has most everything you would need. The kitchen in particular is spacious and a great resource. Perhaps the best thing about this listing is its location. It is a short walk to St. Roch and the Marigny, a medium walk to the Bywater, to Frenchmen or to Treme, and a healthy walk to the French Quarter. I always felt safe walking around here. Jim himself was extremely responsive to any concerns, and often made sure we were doing okay. I would happily rent out this house again.
Jim's House in New Orleans
My wife and I really enjoyed our stay at Jims house. When we had visitors, they stayed in a back bedroom, next to a bathroom. The house is deep enough despite being on one floor that guests have privacy. We appreciated having two bathrooms and laundry facilities, as well as a secluded back porch area. As in any city, you should be aware of your surroundings but we never felt unsafe in the neighborhood. Our dog was walked four times a day, including every night. We walked home at night from Frenchman Street and bars/restaurants in the Bywater. People in the neighborhoods are very friendly. There was a block party on St. Roch Ave. we attended that featured great jazz. Jim left detailed instructions about his place and Information about grocery stores and other resources. We texted a few times as needed and he was always responsive. What's great about Jims is you are in proximity to areas that are popular to visit, but youre also in a neighborhood that reflects true NOLA.
Paradise in New Orleans!
Jim's house is an absolute paradise! We stayed for 4 months and loved every second of it. If you are lucky enough to find his place available, BOOK IT! I did an exhaustive search of other listings in the area and found nothing else that even compares to it. It's so spacious and you can't beat the floor plan. Having two sitting areas, one in the front of the house and one in the back, made it easy to spread out and share the space. So many "shotgun houses" are laid out where you have to walk thru the middle bedroom to get to the back bedroom, but not Jim's. Every bedroom is private and both bathrooms can be accessed from the main living space. The large open kitchen and big dining table make cooking at home easy, and it was such a pleasure sitting on the back deck with morning coffee or an evening glass of wine looking out over his huge lush back yard. It was an oasis of calm. But if you come to town to play, you're in the right spot. It's a quick trip to the French Quarter and all the other popular sights to see. Plus, Jim is not only a great and responsive host, but a fantastic remote tour guide. He truly loves New Orleans and can provide recommendations for all kinds of great restaurants, bars, music, dancing, and other outdoor activities. Going out on the town was great fun, but my fondest memories of our 4 month stay are from just relaxing in Jim's lovely home. I miss it already and can't wait to return.
