Apartment in Portland, Oregon
Landlord Tenure: 7 years, 2 months
Unit is the second floor of a 1920 house converted into a separate apartment with its own outside entrance. Owner lives on the main floor (and is pretty quiet). The neighborhood is a walker's paradise, where daily activities don't require a car. Yet it's generally quiet and calm, without a lot of the ambient noise typical of many urban areas.
Located at the intersection of the Hollywood and Grant Park neighborhoods, it's super convenient, yet relaxed residential area. Walk 2-10 min to grocery stores (TJ's, WholeFoods, Grocery Outlet), restaurants, coffee shops, bakery, pub, bars, weekly farmer's market. Close to transportation (I-84, three major bus lines, MAX light rail). Stroll the tree-lined streets to the local park, or take in a movie, beer and pizza at the hist...
We stayed for over a year!
My partner and I moved into this unit thinking we would use it as a bridge for a few months as we moved from Chicago to Portland. We wound up staying here for over a year. We really appreciated the natural light (our plants loved it, too!) and proximity to the Max train lineyou're only a 7ish minute walk away and it takes you to the airport. The neighborhood has all the necessities: groceries are a short walk away at either Trader Joe's or Grocery Outlet. The Hollywood neighborhood also has a bunch of restaurants and the Hollywood theater, which shows indie movies, throwback films, and some of the best blockbusters if movies are your thing. The neighborhood dog park was also a source of joy and we were a 30ish minute walk to Laurelhurst Park anytime we wanted to bask in some big redwoods. The kitchen is incredibly well thought out and made cooking (one of our favorite things) really enjoyable. The pullout couch also made it possible to host friends who were in town for the weekend.
