I rented this unit as a traveling healthcare professional and paid a large security deposit at the start of the lease. After move-out, a portion of the deposit was withheld for several items that I disputed and believed were pre-existing or consistent with normal wear and tear based on the condition of the unit. I submitted multiple written requests for a detailed, itemized statement and receipts supporting the deductions. I was informed that documentation had been mailed; however, I did not receive it, and the tracking information provided to me did not indicate delivery. During follow-up communication, I received the following written response: “We encourage you to refrain from repeated contacts regarding the same issue that is very clear as it may constitute harassment.” Prospective renters may wish to document the unit carefully at move-in and move-out, keep communication in writing, and review Florida’s security-deposit notice requirements before entering into a lease.
