Say "Bye" to your Deposit
Renters beware! Landlord will find any excuse to keep your deposit. The area is sketchy, specially Camp Creek. The WiFi is shoddy at best, the landlord likes to make noise late at night, the shower was painted white and is now peeling, the kitchen sink only has scalding hot water, and the dishwasher connection lets dirty sink water pool at the bottom of the dishwasher, which makes the whole kitchen smell rotten. The apartment was remodeled sloppily and the landlord expects you to leave the apartment better than she gives it to you. She claims I took 4 plates, two pillows, and two pillow cases and won't return my deposit until she finds the exact replacements online. Don't waste your time or money!
Cynthia, I was surprised by this review, especially since you renewed your lease three times after the initial six-month term. Given that history, I do not understand why you felt it was unfair for me to ask about the missing household items.
Missing items
I did not realize the dishes were vintage until I started looking for replacements. I understand that an occasional plate or glass may break, but the number of missing itemsincluding plates, knives, pillows, and pillowcasesconcerned me. Missing or broken items are not considered normal wear and tear, and I believe it would have been helpful to know about them before you moved out.
I contacted you only to ask what had happened to those items. Receiving this review less than a week later was unexpected, especially since I do not recall any negative interactions between us. Whenever you reported an issue, I addressed it promptly.
Lease accommodations
During your tenancy, I made several accommodations. I allowed your dog even though the listing stated no pets, and I appreciated that you honored your commitment to crate him when you were away. Although he barked for long periods at times, I did not complain. I also did not object when your parents stayed with you for six months or cared for their grandchild in the home, who cried throughout the day.
For those reasons, the review felt aimed more at harming my reputation than at fairly reflecting the overall experience.
Maintenance and repairs
I take pride in keeping the home clean, quiet, and well managed. When the washing machine stopped working, I replaced it with a new one within three days. The kitchen appliances were all brand new, and if I had been told about the dishwasher problem during your tenancy, I would have addressed it right away, including the hot water concern. I cannot fix problems I do not know about.
After you moved out, I checked the dishwasher and found that grease in the drain was causing the backup. This could have been repaired if it had been reported. I never intended to keep your full deposit; I only expected to deduct a small amount to cover the missing dishes and pillows. I had 30 days to refund your deposit but you wrote this review immediately after I reached out to you the 1st week after you departed.
Neighborhood concerns
I was also disappointed by the comments about the neighborhood. In my view, my subdivisionis a safe, family-friendly area. Neighborhood sites such as Next-door describe this subdivision as low-to-no-crime, and throughout your lease, you and your family regularly walked in the neighborhood, including in the evening, without raising safety concerns.
You renewed your lease 3 times and ultimately stayed for a full year, which makes the later description of the area as sketchy difficult for me to understand. Based on my 26 years in this community, I do not consider it unsafe. Homes in the neighborhood are valued at more than $400,000, and I have never experienced an attempted break-in or theft.
Regarding the Wi-Fi issue, the only outages occurred during bad weather, and I kept you informed as the Wi-Fi provider gave updates. Since your departure, I have switched to another Wi-Fi provider to allow for a better Wi-Fi experience for the next tenant.
I hope you will be fairer and offer more communication prior to your reviews to other landlords in the future. I wish Gods blessings over your life.
