Property Not As Advertised and Deposit Withheld

We rented this Willows condo in Sarasota from Jan. 1-Mar30, based on a listing describing it as renovated, luxury, and maintained. Our experience was VERY different. The unit had stained, worn carpet, sloppy paint and cabinets drawers with rotting wood on the inside. One drawer front came off in my hand as I opened it. Old, worn furniture, clogged sinks and a damaged screen door that limited airflow. We documented many issues with photos. Because of the condition of the condo, we asked to leave one month early. The owner told us our deposit would be returned minus utilities, which we agreed to pay. After we left, communication became difficult. We were later told the deposit would not be returned because we broke the lease, despite the earlier agreement. Future renters should document everything carefully and get all deposit agreements in writing.
