Unprofessional Landlord with False Claims Proceed with Caution
My experience with this landlord was far from positive, and I cannot recommend renting from her. Here are the facts of my experience: She claimed that my wife "never showed up," which is both false and puzzling, as my wife was present on the final day for the walkthrough and even spoke with her directly. During that walkthrough, which lasted approximately 30 minutes, the landlord confirmed that everything was in order. No mention of missing cutlery, damaged items, or cleaning issues was made during or after the walkthrough. Furthermore, my wife and I thoroughly cleaned the property the day before leaving, and we also paid a $150 cleaning fee as part of the agreement. These claims are baseless and appear to have been fabricated after I requested my deposit. Regarding her accusation of "threatening" or "squatting," this is a complete misrepresentation. I simply inquired about the possibility of extending the lease. When she informed me that another tenant had already been secured, I respected her decision and vacated the property on the agreed-upon date, even though she asked me about my decision on staying or leaving next month a month before whereas the agreement says I would let her know at least before two weeks of end of agreement. So, her suggestion that I behaved otherwise is unfounded. It is worth noting that all these accusations only arose after I followed up about the return of my security deposit. Based on my experience with other landlords, deposits are typically returned on the same day after a walkthrough. However, this landlord insisted on a 14-day timeline, which I respected. When I followed up on the 15th day, she began making these claims about damages and cleanliness. She did not mentioned any of these accusations within these 15 days between my asking to return the deposit on the 15th! In conclusion, while I met all my obligations as a tenant and left the property on time and in good condition, the landlord's behavior and misrepresentations make it difficult for me to recommend renting from her. Tenants should proceed with caution, ensuring all agreements and communications are thoroughly documented. Its also worth noting that she wrote a review about me on this platform on the 16th day, seemingly out of concern that I might leave a review about her. This appears to have been an attempt to preemptively justify her behavior as a landlord before I had the chance to share my experience. While I typically dont write reviews, I felt compelled to respond to her unfounded accusations. Unfortunately, addressing these baseless claims has been both frustrating and an unnecessary waste of my time due to her dishonesty and misrepresentation.
