rules given after 2 weeks
I was a tenant for 2 weeks when this landlord wrote up a long list of rules. I am very respectful and would not leave dishes ever overnight. In the rules, she also stated I could not bring my TV and I had to use bottled water for my 2 plants I brought. She wanted cash only which was given for rent. She just is not a welcoming landlord. She kept talking how disappointed she was on the previous tenant. She should have given me the long list of rules on the day I was moving in.
This is the text (legal binding contract) that I sent to this tentant with the house rules:
Hi Patty...I feel there is a need to have house rules in place. You told me you don't like anyone telling you what to do and honestly that is a red flag for me. Twice you have left dirty dishes in my sink...once even after I told you not to! Absolutely Unacceptable! Twice I have had to wash toothpaste off the top of the bathroom sink...not even in the sink bowl, but on the top of sink and counter. Again, Absolutely Unacceptable! My property is listed on Furnished Finders as a one bedroom with "shared" bathroom and should be treated as such. You complained about the dresser drawers and yet several times when I asked to fix them you refused. You did not ask about watering your plants every day, you just did it. You did not ask me if you could bring your 40" tv, you just told me you were going to bring it. Therefore, the following are my house rules and they are not negotiable:
1. Both parties of rental are to give 30 day notice to vacate, sent in this text.
2. Renters can park in driveway while loading/unloading only...all renters will park on street.
3. Renters are to clean up after themselves by rinsing out bathroom sink each time it's used.
4. Renters are not to leave dirty dishes in kitchen sink. They are to be rinsed and put in dishwasher. All scraps are to be put in the trash and not left in sink strainer.
5. After cooking, the stove racks, around the burners and the counter are to be cleaned and not left greasy.
6. I pay for my water, so if you want to water your plants every day, you are to use bottled water or water them once a week when I water mine and not run the kitchen water 3 and 4 times as you fill up your container.
7. The Renter's bedroom is fully furnished, so there is no need to bring personal tvs.
8. Laundry is to be done only when I am present.
These are courteous, common sense rules. If you don't think you can abide by these rules, then I'm sorry to say, but maybe you should look for a studio apartment where you can make your own rules. If you want to be out by Oct 1st, I will not make you give a 30 day notice.
Thank you for your time in this matter and please respond to this text.
