I signed an eight week contract at a facility to cover maternity leave. The office manager hired me as a general tech, in actuality needing a specialized tech. So the contract was canceled after just ten days. It was the first contract in six years of traveling that has been canceled. I had paid a $900 deposit for a makeshift bedroom (no closet) in this house and $900 for the month of June. After getting the news of the contract being canceled, the bedroom was cleaned, situation explained in great detail, and keys turned in. The owner refused to give the deposit back stating the lease was in fact for two months. So now the money for my next assignment is gone. Keeping $1800 for ten days for a bedroom in a house is quite harsh. Advise anyone considering this property, to have a stipulation covering your deposit if the unfortunate occurs like your contract being cut short.

We are very sorry to hear that your work assignment was unexpectedly canceled and understand how stressful that situation must have been, especially after relocating for a temporary contract. When your reservation was made, the lease agreement was for a two-month stay, and the security deposit was applied according to the terms of that agreement. While we sympathize with the circumstances surrounding the cancellation of your employment contract, the change in your work assignment was outside of our control. We appreciate that you left the room clean and returned the keys promptly.
