Don't expect your security deposit back

Ashleigh has a lovely home, and our experience was positive until move-out. We rented the property for two months with our two golden retrievers and paid a $750 refundable damage deposit, a $350 pet fee, and a $175 cleaning fee. After moving out, I didn't hear anything about the deposit for over a week. My texts went unanswered, and I eventually received an email claiming damages totaling exactly $750—the full deposit. The photos provided showed minor dirt on rugs and pillows. The couch was covered throughout our stay with both her couch cover and an additional protective cover we brought. I have over 50 five-star Airbnb reviews while traveling with my dogs and have never had a deposit withheld. The home is great, but I would recommend treating the deposit as part of the rental cost rather than expecting it to be refunded.
